The Loop Of Insanity

People have defined insanity as "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome"

I understand why people say that about insanity, but they could not be further from the truth.

I remember the time I made a bet with my friends. It was easy money. All I had to do to win was climb up to the 50th floor of that abandoned building and take a selfie from there.

And so I stepped inside the building. It was old and withered. The elevator did not work. I had to take the stairs. "50 flights of stairs, exercising is paying off." I thought.

I started climbing the old wooden stairs. They creaked with each step. As I soldiered on, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful metal floor markers on each floor. I made my way through the old building. I went past the spider webs and rats; but so far, no serial killers or demons.

I started counting the floor numbers as I climbed up to distract myself from the chore. 15, 16, 17, 18... "Easy Money!" I said to myself, as I made my way through the last stretch of stairs. 45, 46, 47, 48, 49... 49.

"Wait, what! I just crossed floor 49" I thought to myself. Maybe I miscounted. I stepped back and looked down the stairs. I could see the 48th-floor marker. I started climbing again.

I went up another flight of stairs, 49. I climbed again, 49. Another one... Still 49.

And so, It has been this way for as long as I can remember. I cannot think of anything besides the thought of climbing another flight of stairs.

Insanity is not doing the same thing again and again and expecting different outcomes.

Insanity is when you know the outcome will never change; that every doorway leads to the same staircase; that every staircase leads to the same floor. Insanity is when you can't fall asleep.

Insanity is when sadness and sobbing slowly turn into... Laughter.
